Painting with Glacial Clay, a workshop for the whole family during the Children’s Culture Festival!
13:00-15:00
Children's Library
Free entry
Visitors are invited to a workshop with visual artist Íris María Leifsdóttir, where everyone can try painting with glacial clay.
Íris María offers clay from Svínafellsjökull, Breiðamerkurjökull, and Sólheimajökull, which is used for painting on watercolor paper. Watercolors will also be available.
We recommend that guests visit the exhibition Ripples: Shifting Realities in the Arctic, for inspiration before starting to paint their glacier-themed artworks.
You can also view works created by children from several Reykjavík primary schools in the exhibition Inspired by the North, which is on view during The Childrens Culture Festival.
Íris María is studying art education at the Iceland University of the Arts and will graduate with teaching qualifications this summer. She holds a master’s degree in fine art from the Iceland University of the Arts, a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Iceland, and has completed a two‑year painting program at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts. She has exhibited her work widely, including at the Mosfellsbær Art Gallery, The Living Art Museum, the Árnesinga Art Museum, and in Greenland.
Accessibility:The children’s library at the Nordic House is open to everyone. Wheelchair access is available via an elevator from the main entrance through the exhibition space Hvelfing. An accessible restroom and baby-changing facilities are available on the main floor. Library staff are available for further information and assistance if needed.
