Equity and Inclusion in Practice: The Responsibility of Cultural Institutions

What does equity and inclusion mean in practice, and why does it matter? What role can cultural institutions play in creating spaces where people feel seen, represented and genuinely welcome – and what responsibilities come with that role?
The Nordic House and Reykjavík Dance Festival invite you to a seminar exploring these questions and examining how cultural institutions can contribute to a diverse, inclusive and accessible cultural life.
Cultural institutions can be important spaces for encounter, dialogue and participation. They can bring people together across differences, strengthen social trust and create a sense of belonging. But how can we ensure that culture is truly inclusive and accessible to all?

Programme:

  • Opening words by Sabina Westerholm, Director of the Nordic House.
  • Presentations by Chisom Udeze, Executive Director of Diversify, and Phyllis Akinyi, Project Lead on Artist Care at HAUT
  • Panel discussion with: Chisom Udeze, Phyllis Akinyi, Arna Kristín Einarsdóttir, Director of Culture and Media at the Ministry for Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, Sonya Lindfors, Choreographer and Artistic Director, and Pétur Ármannson, Co-director of Reykjavík Dance Festival.
The event will be moderated by Susanne Næss Nielsen, Director of Festspillene in Northern Norway.
