The Secret Life of Insects
Insects are older than dinosaurs and are found everywhere, from deserts to the Arctic Circle. The children’s library’s summer exhibition explores the hidden world of insects in the Nordic countries. It gives insight into the adaptability of insects and tells about wasps that live for 400 million years, larvae that turn other insects into zombies and beetles with poison guns! Although some insects may seem annoying – like mosquitoes or lice, they are essential to the ecosystem. The exhibition is based on the book by the same name by Anne Sverdrup-Thygeson (Insektenes Hemmeligheter) and features beautiful watercolor illustrations, which also adorn the book, by Nina Marie Andersen.
The exhibition also features interactive games, a space for creativity and a cozy reading corner under leaves and a tent for reading and playing. A climbing frame for the youngest visitors will also be in place as well as a selection of books focusing on the life of insects. Summer courses, craft classes (“Hyggestund”) and Story Hours will also be available for free in connection with the exhibition, and more information can be found on the Nordic House website and social media.
Access to the children’s library is via stairs from the library or with the elevator from the atrium and through the Hvelfing exhibition space. More information on accessibility in The Nordic House can be found by clicking here.
