NEXT… II (MALI/ICELAND): Dansviðburðir og vídeó

Salur
Aðgangur ókeypis

In the video dance project next… II (Mali/Iceland) the dance artists Charmene Pang and Kettly Noël will enter into a dialogue through performative video letters. Situated in different countries on different continents, Kettly Noël in Bamako, Mali, and Charmene Pang in Reykjavík, Iceland, the artists engage with the soils and climates of the two countries, which could hardly be more different. One land is expanding, another shrinking – drifting apart earth plates and the displacing desert.

Encompassing different aspects of their country, the unifying themes of the two artists include: Layers of earth, layers of ice, climatic conditions, movement, relocation and isolation. Both moved years ago to the respective countries they live in – what does this mean for them and their relation to the soil they move on? What for their work as artists? What does it tell about the land and what does it say about its culture? And what structures do they offer in order to find interaction through dance within a digital exchange across continents?

At the Nordic House, Kettly and Charmene, who have been sending each other danced video letters for weeks and months, finally meet in reality for the first time and perform together with musician Moritz Thorbecke on Sept. 8.
The video letters of the participants, created within the intergenerational workshop „CorresponDANCE“, are also part of the installation.
