Finnish Performance Art Nordic Tour

During Midsommar festival we will enjoy three performances from Finnish artists. The performances will happen outside at 16:00 – 17:30. After the performances Antti Ahonen will present his work on performance photography. 

The groups consist of six experienced artists, dedicated to working with performance art. Currently they are touring across the Nordic Countries in order to present Finnish performance art and make it more known in all of the corners of the North.

Linda and Aura 

Linda and Aura is a performance art duo that started in 2001. Linda and Auras work is driven by an interest in exploring the blurred boundary between play and reality, and the collision of the absurd and the realistic. The duo will create a performance around the internationally known Aalto vase, an iconic design created by architect and designer Alvar Aalto and his wife Aino in 1936. The performance is a study and a test of the different uses, ideals and symbolism connected to the vase.

Kainulainen & Latva 

The Kainulainen & Latva duo was founded in 2014 and have performed some 80 unique pieces internationally. Kainulainen & Latva are partners in both art and life, presenting performance art rather from the dark side of the human mind, with autobiographical insight. Their art reflects the phenomena of the adult sexualised world through naive eyes, using fantasy-like imagery.

Tomasz Szrama 

Tomasz came from Poland to Finland 28 years ago and, unable to express himself in any common language, began to develop his own performance practice as an alternative way of communication. He creates intense ephemeral actions in collaboration with the audience, trying to capture the essence of a specific place and moment. Over time, contact with people became more important to him than the great need to be understood. Tomasz believes that anyone can create a phenomenon on a cosmic scale, even if it can sometimes seem like a pointless sacrifice of a meaningless man.

Antti Ahonen 

Antti Ahonen has documented Finnish performance- and underground art from the beginning of the 2000´s. He is the most dedicated performance art photographer in Finland and holds a photo archive of tens of thousands of images, which is without a doubt the largest private collection of performance art in Finland. He will open this unique archive to the audience, showing a selection of pictures and telling stories about his work and the many performances he has witnessed, through the past decades.

Accessibility to the building is temporarily restricted due to ongoing renovations, we update the information here if anything changes before the 23^rd June. Accessible and gender neutral bathrooms are on  the main floor of the building. From the main floor an elevator goes down to Hvelfing exhibition space. 

Access to The greenhouse is restricted for wheelchair users, there is a small step into the greenhouse. If weather allows the workshop will also be outside the Greenhouse where everyone can access it. The pavilion stands in front of small garden with grass and tables, a small pathway made of gravel leads up to the pavilion.
