The Visual Arts Day in the Nordic House

The Visual Arts Day in the Nordic House

Exhibition by 4th and 6th grade students from Fellaskóli

The Visual Arts Day is a pan-Nordic art day for children and young people. The day serves the purpose of showing and exalting art and the potential of art forms. The aim is that the day will be celebrated in all the Nordic countries in schools, museums and institutions.

In Iceland, the theme of the year is feathers, and the students have made different works related to the theme. During the creative process, expressions related to feathers were introduced, and the students subsequently made haika about feathers, which many of them associated with their home country – since the majority of students in Fellaskóli have a country of origin other than Iceland. The artist Sara Riel came to visit the school and talked about her work Fjöðrin, which is in Asparfell on a building opposite Fellaskóli – and which all the students know. In her presentation, she explained the concept behind the feather and what it’s like to do such a big job on a building.

The exhibition opens on March 13th and will be in the exhibition space in the hallway by the main entrance of The Nordic House throughout the week. Accessibility is good in the atrium and on the same floor there is an accessible and genderneutral restrooms.
