Goldsmiths for 100 years: Gitte Bjørn
10:00 - 17:00
Gitte Bjørn’s exhibition invites viewers into a thoughtful exploration of the human experience, deeply intertwined with the body and its myriad forms. Since starting her artistic journey in 1993, Gitte has evolved from creating primarily jewellery to producing compelling objects and corpus works, all while maintaining a profound connection to her love for shaping metal. This exhibition crystallizes her unconventional approach to silver hollowware, eschewing the Nordic tradition of minimalism for a vibrant celebration of form and play. Her works, whether figurative or abstract with figurative influences, transcend mere craft to embody an exuberant character that challenges perceptions. Gitte delves into the complexities of the human body, presenting cheeky renderings of noses, genitals, and rolls of fat, transformed into functional yet aesthetically delightful pieces like bowls, spoons, and candleholders. With an exquisite level of craftsmanship, Gitte Bjørn’s works reveal an honest truth about our physical selves — beautiful, playful, and unapologetically real.
Gitte Bjørn’s exhibition is part of the celebration of 100 years of goldsmiths in Iceland.
