On West-Nordic Day we will have a short reading in Faroese and Icelandic from the books that received nominations for the Nordic Children’s Literature Prize

The Faroese musician Sakaris Emil Joensen reads from the beautiful book Strikurnar, by Dánial Hoydal and Annika Øyrabø, which is nominated this year for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize. Sakaris is well known for his guitar skills but now he will bring his ukulele and play some well-chosen Faroese children’s songs.

In Icelandic, there will be a reading from Eldgos by Rán Flygenring, which is also nominated for this year’s award, and there will be a craft related to the book after the reading.

The workshop gives curious families the opportunity to hear these unique languages that are very similar. The crafts are based on the images of the books and therefore it is not necessary to speak either language to enjoy the reading and craft making.
Educational material will be available 28th of September relating to both books on the The Nordic Book Worm  webpage, which provides access to free learning and support material about picture books from the Nordic countries in all Nordic languages. The content is free for everyone to use.

The workshop will take place in Icelandic, Faroese and English, free of charge and everyone is welcome!
