Presentation of the Halldór Laxness international literary prize

The Halldór Laxness International Literary Prize will be awarded at the Nordic House on Thursday, September 10th.
The prize is awarded every second year to an internationally recognized author for contributing to the renewal of the art of storytelling, which was precisely the justification given by the Swedish Academy when Halldór Laxness received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1955.
The prize is also intended to promote the name of Halldór Laxness on an international stage. It is organized by the Reykjavík International Literary Festival, the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, Business Iceland, Gljúfrasteinn, and Forlagið, the publisher of Halldór Laxness in Iceland. The Nordic House is a partner of the 2026 Halldór Laxness International Literary Prize.
This year, the prize is awarded to the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk. She will accept the award on Thursday, September 10th, with the program beginning at 17:00. Logi Einarsson, Minister of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education, will present Tokarczuk with the prize, which consists of a cash award of 15,000 euros along with a medal.
Halla Oddný Magnúsdóttir and Halldór Guðmundsson will then lead a conversation with Tokarczuk on stage after the ceremony.
Admission is free and open to everyone as seating permits.
