Art in foyer – “LAST CHANCE TO SEE”
The latest works of Berglind Svavarsdóttir, watercolours and acrylics on paper and canvas, are inspired, on the one hand, by the observation of everyday life, and on the other, by an imaginary environment which has its roots in literature and fairy tales.
Although each work tells a story of its own, they all share a common base that combines characteristics of contemporary society – the will to appear, to consume, the illusion of being – with some unexpected, dreamlike and natural elements.
Berglind’s works represent a fusion between two worlds, the real one and the fabulous one, and the boundaries between dream and reality are lost.
Nature appears here in the shape of plants, birds and animals, many of which are endangered, while others are lost forever. The title of the exhibition reminds us that it is the last chance to see them before it’s too late.
Berglind Svavarsdóttir holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Iceland Academy of the Arts and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milano, Italy, where she has lived since. Berglind has participated in exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad, while this exhibition at the Nordic House is her first solo exhibition in Iceland.
