 Winter break workshop for children aged 8-10 years old

A two-day free workshop where the unique Sami culture will be explored in the context of the exhibition Is This North? Sami traditions and Sami land will be explored. Special focus will be on Sami patterns, and it will be used as inspiration for gel prints, paint on canvas and creative embroidery. The children’s library’s exhibition TRÉРwill also be used as a teaching tool for different sketching technique and to show different ways of drawing and interpreting trees.

The teachers of the workshop are Estelle Pollaert, visual artist and Hrafnhildur Gissurardóttir, mediator of arts and culture at the Nordic House. The teaching will take place in English, French and Icelandic. The workshop is free of charge, but due to limited spaces, registration is needed. For that please email full name, age and phone number to: hrafnhildur@nordichouse.is. Fruit will be served both days, but it is recommended that students bring packed lunches as well. Bear in mind that one of the materials used is paint so protective clothing or “painting clothes” recommended.

Opening hours and accessibility: The Children’s Library is open for all. Accessible for wheelchair users via the elevator and through Hvelfing exhibition space. Accessible restrooms and a restroom for families with babies is on the main floor. Opening hours are TUE-SUN 10 am-5 pm. Entrance to the library and all events is free of charge.
