Classics in the moorlands: In the heart of Paris

Hafdís Vigfússdóttir, flute and pianist Kristján Karl Bragason present a radiant program of French music with some key works of the flute repertoire as well as the premiere of an Icelandic piece inspired by Paris. Fantasie op. 79 by Fauré, Sonata nr. 1 by Gaubert, Sonata for flute and piano by Poulenc, Chant de Linos by Jolivet and Les escaliers des rues de Paris by Gísli J. Grétarsson.

 

Hafdís Vigfúsdóttir studied in the Netherlands, France and Norway and was awarded second place in the international flute competition “Le Parnasse” in Paris. She has played as a soloist with the Reykjavik Chamber Orchestra, The Youth Orchestra and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra.  She plays chamber music with The Icelandic Flute Choir and Stirni ensemble and teaches at the Hafnarfjörður Music School.

Kristján Karl studied in Germany, France and the Netherlands. In 2000 he won first prize in the Icelandic EPTA competition. As a soloist he has played recitals and also played Brahms piano concerto no. 1 with the Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is an accompanist and piano teacher at the Icelandic Arts Academy, The Reykjavík College of Music and The Music School in Reykjanesbær.

Gísli Jóhann Grétarsson, composer and conductor lives in Reykjavík and works in the field of contemporary music making and composing. He recently returned from Scandinavia after ten years of studying and composing. His work include operas, chamber music and choir music and has been performed in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, USA and Australia. His piece VOICELAND was recently performed, by the chamber choir Hymnodia in the Reykjavik Opera Days and his next opera Systemet will be premiered in Oslo, spring 2020.

Tickets are kr. 3.000 and kr. 2.000 for seniors and the disabled, free for students and guests under the age of twenty. Tickets available on tix.is and at the entrance. The concert series Klassík í Vatnsmýrinni (Classics in the moorlands) is organised in collaboration between the Icelandic Soloist Society and the Nordic House and places great emphasis on Scandinavian and international cooperation.
