Concert and talk with SUPERCOIL – Pink Ribbon

In cooperation with BRCA Iceland and The Icelandic Cancer Society, Nordic House invites for a talk and concert with SUPERCOIL.

Before for the concert begins there will be a short welcome speech from The Icelandic Cancer Society and followed by a panel talk lead by Amalie Guldberg Thomsen, who is a philosophy student and intern at Nordic House.

About the project: SUPERCOIL  is an experiment in fusing art and science, exploring the genetic code through music. It’s a collaborative project between Esther Thorvalds, whose experience with a mutation in her BRCA2 gene inspired the formation of the project, Robin Morabito (active as Bob Hermit), and Hrafnkell Örn Guðjonsson (Agent Fresco, BÖSS). Together they blend sound, science, and personal experiences to create music. Their music merges electronic, contemporary, and rock elements, exploring a spectrum of genres.

They craft some of their own electronic instruments using e-textiles – soft materials that resemble amino acids and DNA chains – blurring the lines between organic and synthetic sounds. Esther also uses Robin’s live coding software to tell her BRCA story. The team’s compositions feature unusual sounds, fragmented voice recordings, and unconventional effects, resulting in a soundscape that isas unpredictable as the mutations that inspired it.
