Children’s Culture Festival at the Nordic House!

We celebrate the Children’s Culture Festival in Reykjavík 2026 from 21–26 April. The programme includes, among other things, an exhibition of works by primary school children, family tours, and various workshops. Free admission to all exhibitions and workshops.

Painting with Glacier Clay – Workshop for the Whole Family!

25.04

Visual artist Íris María Leifsdóttir will host a workshop where participants can try painting with glacier clay. She offers clay from Svínafellsjökull, Breiðamerkurjökull, and Sólheimajökull, which can be used to paint on watercolour paper. Watercolours will also be used.

We recommend visiting the exhibition Gárur: Changes in the Arctic for inspiration before starting to paint glacier images with glacier clay.

Family Tour of the Exhibition Gárur: Changes in the Arctic

26.04

Join a calm, one-hour guided tour of the exhibition with curator Ásthildur Jónsdóttir; the tour will be held in Icelandic. Together, we explore artworks and scientific research on the Arctic, snow, ice, and glaciers, as well as the changes taking place in these regions due to climate change. The tour is specially adapted for children.

Children can play and try various activities during the tour, and families are warmly welcome to stay afterwards and take part in additional workshops in the children’s library.

Inspired by the North

21.04–26.04

The exhibition Inspired by the North features textile works, collages, video works, and paintings by students from Landakot School, Melaskóli, and Hagaskóli. The works are all inspired by the exhibition Gárur: Changes in the Arctic, currently on display at the Nordic House. The works have been created under the guidance of artists as well as art and craft teachers from the schools.

The exhibition will be shown in the foyer by the main entrance and in the children’s library at the Nordic House during the festival days and will be open during the building’s opening hours, 10:00–17:00, Tuesday to Sunday.

Welcome!
