Hyggestund – Make yourself into a bird!
13:00 - 15:00
Make yourself into a bird!
The whole family is welcome to a collage and drawing workshop inspired by our new summer exhibition “Birds”!
In this workshop we will be making ourselves, a friend or a family member as a bird.
If you would be a bird, what type would you be? An Icelandic one, a tropical one or maybe even a dinosaur bird?
With simple shapes we will cut out a bird and assemble it on a colour paper. Guests can add accessories to make it more personal – add a moustache, hat, tie, jacket, funny shoes, glasses…After dressing up your bird you can add your bird name.
For this workshop we will find inspiration in the book Aaltonen the Duck and the Art of Flying (Anden Aaltonen och konsten att flyga) , from Veera Salmi with beautiful illustrations by Matti Pikkujämsä. It was nominatet for the Nordic Council Children´s and youth literature price in 2020. A pedagogical material can be found in all Nordic languages at bokslukaren.org.
We will of course also seek inspiration in the book Birds by Hjörleifur Hjartarson and Rán Flygenring and all the birds passing by the pond in Vatnsmýrin outside the Nordic House.
The workshop takes place in the Children´s library where the exhibition “Birds” is installed. The exhibition highlight thirteen birds that have a home or have stopped by in Vatnsmýrin outside the Nordic House – which is also a bird conservation area.
Teacher of the workshop is Estelle Pollaert, a French multidisciplinary artist based in Reykjavik, Iceland. Formerly trained as a product designer/glass blower in France and in Finland she now focuses on illustration and building of papier mâché sculptures. Her art is playful, colourful and makes us smile every day we encounter them. Estelle has experience teaching to Children’s in English, French and Icelandic.
