Timjune

Tianjun Li, performing as Timjune, is a musician, vocalist, and interdisciplinary artist based in Finland. Harnessing an exceptional four-octave vocal range, he constructs immersive, layered sonic landscapes that transcend conventional boundaries of gender and species.
For Pikknikk 2026, Timjune presents a live iteration of his ongoing project, Free as Birds. Tracing the migratory paths of birds, the work establishes a direct dialogue between artificial intelligence and the human voice. Traditional bird songs are translated into speculative “bird languages,” then reinterpreted through diverse vocal practices – including Nordic kulning, Mongolian long song, Cretan rizitika, and Corsican polyphony – performed alongside local choirs from varied communities.
The resulting performance merges environmental soundscapes, AI-generated elements, and human choirs into a hybrid auditory experience. In a site-specific twist at the Nordic House’s greenhouse, the audience is invited to join the bird song choir, becoming active participants in this convergence of nature, technology, and sound.
