Eating insects is nothing new — why does the western world treat it with disgust?

For the past three years, a team from Copenhagen-based Nordic Food Lab, made up of chefs and researchers Josh Evans, Ben Reade and Roberto Flore, has been travelling the world to learn what some of the two billion people who already eat insects have to say. In BUGS, film director Andreas Johnsen follows them as they forage, farm, cook and taste insects with communities in Europe, Australia, Mexico, Kenya, Japan and beyond.

”BUGS is one of most compelling documentaries about food in the past few years” – John Wedemeyer.

  • According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, FAO, insects should be a significant part of our protein source in the future if we want to avoid food shortages. But can we change our Western habits and learn to eat insects? Which factors come into play, when we want to affect food culture?

Did you know…

…that around 2 billions of people already eat insects?

The Perfect Selfie is a modern coming of age story in the social media era starring the finnish Instagram-star Olivia Oras

The Perfect Selfie follows Olivia’s life for one year, showing the moments that she does not share online. There are bad days, and sometimes the going gets too tough. There are also many happy events that do not end up being posted on her account.

This documentary is a reminder of the fact that we often show only a small fraction of ourselves in social media, only selecting the best moments to publish. Olivia has 20 000 followers, but who really knows her?

Teaching materials available.
