Welcome to the summer workshop Art, Plants & Birds!

Children ages 8-12 years old are welcome to a free summer workshop at the Nordic house.

During the workshop they will get to know the birds around the Nordic House in Vatnsmýri bird sanctuary, both through observing them outside, and through BIRDS – the new summer exhibition at the Children’s Library. The exhibition is based on the popular book BIRDS by Rán Flygenring and Hjörleifur Hjartarson and showcases a selection of birds that are local or seasonal to Iceland and some of them to Vatnsmýrin outdoor area as well. Based on their new bird knowledge the children will learn how to make a small papier-mâché bird. The birds each get a special character based on the children themselves or a person close to them.

In the outside area of the house the children will also get the chance to practise foraging, which helps them get a good understanding of the greenery surrounding the house. With the foraged plants they learn how to do gel print experiments, that will become an environment for the papier-mâché bird.

Participants will also get to know the new art exhibition in Hvelfing exhibition hall called Time After Time and do exercises connected to selected works.
