Meet the Author: Kathrine Nedrejord
Welcome to a “Meet the Author” with Kathrine Nedrejord, author of Sameproblemet and other books.
Kathrine Nedrejord grew up in Kjøllefjord, Finnmark, and writes her books in Norwegian; several of them have been translated into Northern Sámi.
She was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Award for Forbryter og straff in 2023, and her latest book Sameproblemet has won Brageprisen 2024 in the category for adult fiction, Peer Olov Enquists pris 2025, and Ungdommens kritikerpris 2025
«Sameproblemet» [the Sámi problem] examines what it means to be Sámi, woman, mother, daughter and granddaughter, [in] a strong novel about Sámi culture, language and identity. At the same time, it is a reckoning with the Norwegian state, church, and school system.
