Finnish Story Hour
11:30 - 12:00
The whole family is welcome to a Finnish Story Hour!
The book is a part of a new exhibition at the Children´s library of the Nordic house: “The Tree” which is an exhibition that explores the concept of trees in children’s books, featuring illustrations from Nordic picture books. These books are part of “The Bookworm”, a Nordic database of educational materials related to books nominated for The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize. The database is free and accessible to everyone in all Nordic languages at bokslukaren.org.
The exhibition promotes image reading and understanding – so families who do not speak the language are welcome to join and hear Finnish. The images and educational materials help everyone to understand the books. Visitors can also borrow Bookworm Story Bags and practice image reading at home. Each bag holds a selection of the Nordic books from the exhibition with pedagogical material on bokslukaren.org.
After the reading visitors are encouraged to enjoy their time and take part in interactive games in relation to the exhibition. Ask at the library desk for a copy of the banana game. Make your own tree illustration and hang your art work up in special frames in the middle of the exhibition. You can ask at the library desk if you need more craft materials or have any questions regarding the exhibition or the activities.
