Recycled Christmas decoration – Workshop

13-15

Come join us for a workshop in recycled Christmas decoration!  Saturday 9th December 13:00 – 15:00

Drop by at the Nordic House to make different kinds of Christmas hearts of recycled paper! Artist Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir will lead the workshop and show you how to make three types of Christmas decoration. You can, of course, take your decorations home or give them away as a present! The workshop will be held in Icelandic and is open to everyone (children must be accompanied by an adult).

About Sæunn:
Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir is a visual artist who loves to sing, a homemaker with a teaching degree, a country girl who has lived in both towns and cities, and a few other things besides.
She has been interested in paper for many years. She likes to make paper, make things from paper, to paint on paper, cut paper, glue, sew and fold paper. Sæunn has been painting on paper for quite a while, but in recent years she has been experimenting with paper, folding into various forms and arranging the forms into patterns. Paper reliefs, mobiles and jewellery are some of the things she makes from paper. The paper she uses is often old discarded paper that would otherwise be thrown away, and her art is a kind of reuse. Sæunn´s web page, www.saeunn.is, has photos and information about her work.

About the workshop:
There is a lot of paper around, and too much of it is only used once before it is recycled, or just thrown away. At the workshop we will use used paper to create Christmas decorations. Books, pamphlets, music sheets, magazines, postcards, Christmas cards and maps will change shape, and become Christmas hearts. Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir will guide the participants in making three different kinds of heart shaped Christmas ornaments from paper. If you have any material that could be used during the workshop, you’re very welcome to bring it along! It could be old books, magazines, maps, notepads or anything else that you have at home which can be suitable. We appreciate all contributions! We welcome you with all our hearts.

The workshop is open to come and go as you please. There will be glühwein, Christmas music and we’re hoping for a cosy atmosphere full of creativity. You are welcome to come alone, together with friends or with the whole family!

This workshop is part of the Nordic House Christmas program.
