The concert series Classics in the moorlands begins the season in the Nordic House with Chinese cellist Chu Yi-Bing performing Sonatas by Ludvig van Beethoven and Claude Debussy as well as songs by Gabriel Fauré and a piece by Chinese composer Sha Hankun.

Chu Yi-Bing Chu graduated from the Conservatory in Paris with a Premier Prix and since winning first prize in the Concours International d’Exécution Musicale in Geneva he has been a sought after. He was the principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland for fifteen years and is now a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He will be accompanied by Romanian pianist Aladár Rácz, a resident of Iceland for almost twenty years who, studied in Bucharest and Budapest, went on to win international competitions and has played numerous concerts and solo recitals and made several recordings. He teaches at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, the Sigurður Demetz Singing School and the music school Do Re Mi.

Admittance to the concert is kr. 3.000, kr. 2.000 for seniors and the disabled, free for students and guests under the age of twenty. Tickets available on tix.is and at the entrance. The concert series Klassík í Vatnsmýrinni (Classics in the moorlands) is organised in collaboration between the Icelandic Soloist Society and the Nordic House and places great emphasis on Scandinavian and international cooperation.
