Children’s Culture Festival at the Nordic House!
10:00
Welcome to an exhibition of works by children from Reykjavík’s primary schools.
The exhibition Inspired by the North will feature textile works, collages, video works and paintings by students from Landakotsskóli, Melaskóli and Hagaskóli. The works are all inspired by the exhibition Ripples: Shifting Realities in the Arctic, currently on display at the Nordic House. The works are made under the guidance of artists as well as art and craft teachers from the schools. The exhibition will be in the lobby at the main entrance and in the children librarie of the Nordic House during the festival and is open during the building’s opening hours from 10 am to 5 pm.
School groups are invited to participate in creative and interdisciplinary workshops during the Children’s Culture Festival, where they will get to know the exhibition Ripples: transformation in the Arctic. The exhibition brings together artists and scientists who share a common interest in investigating the profound environmental, cultural and sensory transformations currently taking place in the Arctic. The exhibition examines, among other things, the impact of climate change on snow, ice and glacial landscapes and encourages visitors to consider the human relationship with nature and the cultural significance of the North.
In the workshops, children get to work with the ideas of the exhibition in their own way, through art creation, conversation and participation.
The emphasis is on perception, imagination and collaboration, as children explore:
• Snow, ice, water and landscapes as living phenomena
• How changes in nature affect people, communities and culture
• The concept of ripples – how our actions can have an impact far beyond our own world
Who can participate?
Kindergartens and primary schools (adapted by age)
Leisure and cultural activities – after school programs
Why participate?
• Children get to work with real-world, contemporary issues
• Creative approaches strengthen critical thinking, empathy, and environmental awareness
