FIFTEEN TO FIFTEEN is the title of a recital at 15:15 concert series at The Nordic house on Sunday November 22nd at 3.15 pm, where the cellist Sigurdur Halldorsson and pianist Liwen Huang will perform.
About the concert:
A hundred years and new for cello
The year 1915 was a prosperous year in the music history. Particular many works were written who came to be a milestone in the field of solo and chamber music for cello. That year Kodaly wrote the solo sonata for cello, the first work for solo cello in the nearly 200 years that came took place in the concert repertoire, and also the beginning of a rich heritage of twentieth century music for cello with all the development of various non-conventional technique and new approach to the instrument, essentially invented and designed in the Baroque period. That same year, Debussy wrote sonata for cello and piano. The work was extremely progressive, and was until not long ago listed among pieces of contemporary music at most universities. It can be argued that this concert is an attempt to deliver these works finally from the contemporary music category to the “period” category.
Besides these works, a brand new work; Tatsachen by Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir, will be premiered at the recital. Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir is studying composition at the Academy with Hróðmar I Sigurbjörnsson and will graduate with a bachelor’s degree next spring. The work was written especially for this recital so that the program will include brand new composition of today.
The entrance is 2000kr and 1000kr for disabled, senior citizens and students.
