Nordic House Book Club

Nordic House Book Club

Are you curious about Nordic literature but unsure where to start?

The Nordic House hosts a book club in Reykjavík’s most beautiful library, where we gather to discuss Nordic literature. The reading group is led by Anne Gamborg Jensen, literature intern.

In October, we will read Sámi poetry. We will explore Såle (Juolgevuođđu) by Niillas Holmberg, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2020. In addition, we will read excerpts from The Sun, My Father (Beaivi, áhčážan) by Nils-Aslak Valkeapää, which in 1991 became the first – and so far, only work by a Sámi author to win the Nordic Council Literature Prize.

In November, we will read Greenlandic literature: Zombieland (Zombiet Nunaat), a short story collection by Sørine Steenholdt, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2016.

Meeting times and place: Thursday, 9 October and Thursday, 13 November at 15:30.

We will read in Scandinavian languages and discuss the literature together in “Blandinavian” (a mixture of the Scandinavian languages). The book club takes place in the library, and the Nordic House provides coffee and tea.

The books will be available at the Nordic House Library. Participation is free, but as space is limited, registration is required. Please sign up at: intern.bibliotek@nordichouse.is
