DesignMarch 2025: Earth and Water
10:00-19:00
Welcome to the opening party of DesignMarch, which will be held at The Nordic House on April 4th from 5 to 7 p.m.
The project Earth and Water by Aldís Yngvadóttir will be presented at Plantan bístró during the weekend of 4th-6th April. The project showcases a vase made of Icelandic clay that Yngvadóttir collects and makes entirely herself. The vases are hand-built and the form is free and natural. There is no glaze on the outside, but the natural appearance is allowed to enjoy itself. The texture is rather raw, but the earthy color is warm and beautiful. The creative process takes its time – it is a “slow” design. Sustainability is a dominant theme in her work with Icelandic clay.
The work is called Earth and Water because these materials are among the foundations of life on Earth. The vase combines the two because the clay is baked or burned earth filled with water, which allows living things such as plants to thrive.
Opening Hours:
Fri 4 April:5pm –7pm
Sat 5 April:10am – 5pm
Sun 6 April: 10am – 5pm
Aldís graduated from the ceramics department at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts in the spring of 2021. It was there she became interested in Icelandic clay and has since then been experimenting with this interesting material in ceramics and ceramic design.
Accessibility in Plantan Bistró is good. On the same floor is a toilet with good access and changing facilities. There is a ramp leading to the Nordic House from the parking lot, and an automatic button at the main door.
