Forms of Life

Forms of Life is an evolving scenography with recent works by designers and artists affiliated to the Iceland Academy of The Arts.

The exhibition is conceived in dialogue with the Inspired by Aalto anniversary exhibition at the Nordic House.

From hyperreal fantasies to eco-sensual explorations, Forms of Life favours recycling and resampling strategies, alternative aesthetics and individual rituals.

The exhibition space will combine artefacts, video works and life experiences.

Forms of Life is an evolving scenography with recent works by designers and artists affiliated to the Iceland Academy of The Arts. The exhibition is conceived in dialogue with the Inspired by Aalto anniversary exhibition at the Nordic House. Forms of Life orbits the modernist movement´s central question of the Total Work of Art: must our environment, from architecture to interiors, fashion and objects reflect our values and ethics? Forms of Life asks how we construct our ways of living and our identities today, and allows for conflicting points of view. We do not inhabit the media sphere in the same way that the modernists inhabited the physical world. In light of the new ecologies challenging the borders between genders and species, we are constructing new ways to care for ourselves, our kin and other lifeforms. The works on show explore contemporary relationships with matter, media and others: from hyperreal fantasies to eco-sensual rituals. Forms of Life favours recycling and resampling strategies, alternative aesthetics and individual rituals. The exhibition space will combine artefacts, video works and a series of live experiences.
