Unearthed: Sýning í Gróðurhúsi
Unearthed – Uppgrafið, ný sýning í gróðurhúsinu sem stendur dagana 2. Desember til 10. Desember. Verið velkomin á opnun sýningarinnar þann 2. Desember klukkan 14:00.
Þann 9. Desember verður ganga um Rauðhóla með jarðfræðingi, listamanni og sýningarstjóra. Öll velkomin.*
Fyrir 5200 árum varð eldgos. Með miklum sprengikrafti dreifðist hraun alla leið til Reykjavíkur. Á leið sinni rann hraunið í gegnum víðáttumikið votlendi, grunnt standandi vatn og myndaði að lokum gervigígana Rauðhólar sem enn standa í dag. Eldfjall gaus og náttúran reif í sundur fyrra landslag. Í dag eru Rauðhólar aðeins minning um þetta forna eldgos, upprunalegu formi þeirra og lögun hefur verið raskað og breytt með mannlegum inngripum. Uppgrafnir haugar jarðvegs breyttust að lokum í námu, en var síðan dreift um Reykjavík. Einn áningarstaður jarðvegsins er undir malbiki innanlandsflugvallar Reykjavíkur, vegunum þar í kring og hugsanlega undir Norræna húsinu.
Sýningin Unearthed – Uppgrafið í gróðurhúsi Norræna hússins er rannsókn á svæðinu Rauðhólar, sem staðsett er í Heiðmörk. Sýningin er þverfagleg þar sem sjá má listrannsóknir í bland við jarðfræðirannsóknir. Með hljóðinnsetningu reynir listamaðurinn að endurtengja uppruna ígrædds jarðvegs frá Rauðhólar á nýjum stað. Þessi listræni sögugjörningur gerir áhorfendum kleift að skilja áhrif námuvinnslu í samfélagi okkar sem einn af þeim þáttum sem umbreyta landslaginu mest. Sýningin kannar flækjustig þjóðsagna, jarðfræðilegra atburða og mannlegra áhrifa. Nærveru og fjarveru jarðvegs.

Corinna J. Duschl is a German artist, currently residing in Iceland. Through her work, she tries to create situations that make us relate to the troubled ecologies of our time. Within those complicated zones, thinking in dichotomies, such as the nature/culture split, becomes impossible, forcing us to acknowledge dense and entangled environments. Thereby, Corinna is deeply influenced by animistic and posthuman theory, conducting embodied research through her practice.
Daria Testoedova is an indigenous curator, art historian and researcher. Her initial interest is in the anthropological and ethnographic view of the fine arts and history of her indigenous Siberian roots. With her work, she delves into the depths of the cultural fabrics and explores the Anthropocene of the localities with thorough field studies. Daria explores indigenous knowledge, kinship and belonging, and decolonisation through her work.

*This Saturday 09.12.2023 at 13:00 you are welcome to join the “UNEARTHED” walk in the Rauðhólar area. Geologist Soley Johnson, artist Corinna J. Duschl and curator Daria Testoedova will share the background and story behind the exhibition UNEARTHED, which stands in the Greenhouse of Nordic House.
You can learn about the geological events that formed the area, and hear about the historical occurrences that altered the original look of the Rauðhólar. This exhibition and a walk is a look into the effects of quarrying, from historical, social, and cosmological points of view.
The information part of the walk will be approximately 40 minutes after you can experience one of the artworks from the exhibition in the Nordic House in its original place.
Please wear warm clothes, since it will be an outdoor experience.
The meeting point is the first big parking lot at the Rauðhólar at 12:55 (as in the picture below):
