Dragons and Furlings – Artist talks

17:00-19:00

Dragons and Furlings

Artist talks, guided tour and music performance in the mesmerising world of The Weather Diaries

Visual artist Shoplifter (Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir)  and Jóhanna Methúsalemsdóttir, the creator of Kría Jewelry, are two of the participants in The Weather Diaries exhibition at the Nordic House. Both women are Icelandic and for over 20 years they have cultivated their creativity in New York.

They will give the audience an insight into their practice and philosophy, sometimes touching on common themes as both are fascinated by the primitive desire of human beings to adorn and beautify themselves. Both of them create work that can exist comfortably in the grey area where art meets design and where the power of imagination is limitless.

They will be joined by the performance artist and musician Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir, former member of Icelandic band múm. Kristín Anna has frequently collaborated with Shoplifter and appears as the Furling in the photographs they created with Cooper and Gorfer for the Weather Diaries exhibition. Kristín Anna will perform her own music and a short version of the soundscape she created for the installation Nervescape by Shoplifter, originally an installation curated by Alanna Heiss for the Clocktower Gallery in New York.

Lectures will be in English. Free entrance.
