Symposium: Visual Literacy

The Nordic House welcomes you to the Symposium Visual Literacy. In an increasingly visual world, the ability to interpret and create meaning from images is essential across disciplines.

Join us for 4 short presentations that highlight different aspects of visual literacy.

Guðrún Elísa Ragnarsdóttir presents Bokslukaran, a Nordic project to promote reading of children’s literature in all the Nordic countries.

Ingibjörg Hannesardóttir will present the project SJÓNLÆSI, which aims in a purposeful way to connect the teaching of visual literacy and art history with the school system and to increase students’ knowledge of the cultural history and cultural heritage.

Bergrún Iris Sævarsdóttir will share their perspective on how images in storytelling convey deeper meanings, often telling us more than words alone.

We’ll conclude with a moderated panel discussion focusing on how visual literacy can help us within the areas of language and reading
