Conversation between Mazen Maarouf and Viðar Þorsteinsson on the situation and history of Palestine.

The Israeli – Gaza war has reached an unprecedented level in terms of number of civilians killed, more than 7000 of which are children. Millions of people around the world are demanding an immediate ceasefire and reviving the peace process.

What history lays before the 7th of October and how did the international community fail to guarantee peace after Oslo accords in 1993? What future awaits Gaza Strip afterall? Writer and journalist Mazen Maarouf along with activist and labor strategist Viðar Þorsteinnson discuss the situation and try to shed a light over the background of the war both from a personal and historical perspective.

Mazen Maarouf is an award winning Palestinian writer, poet, translator, and journalist who was born in Beirut to a family of Palestinian refugees. He has published one novella, three collections of poetry, and three short story collections including “Jokes for the Gunmen” that was longlisted for Man International Booker Prize in 2019. 

Viðar Þorsteinsson has been active in Palestine solidarity work for over 20 years. He is the director of education and membership affairs at Efling Union.
