Theremin workshop for children of all ages

The whole family is welcome at the theremin workshop this Saturday at the Nordic house.  In the workshop, children get to know graphic notation and the instrument theremin.  In the first part of the workshop, the children draw their own musical notation and then exchange pictures. In the second part, they get to learn the electric instrument theremin through fun exercises and can also try playing other children’s songs based on drawings. The workshop is mainly intended for ages 8+, but younger children can participate with the help of their parents.

The teacher of the workshop is Hekla Magnúsdóttir theremin player. Hekla graduated with a BA in composition and then an MA in art education in 2023. She has released two full-length albums. She is on the list of the world’s leading theremin players in Composer Magazine, one of her album has been chosen as contemporary album of the month by The Guardian and The Reykjavík Grapevine nominated her record as the record of the year in 2022. She has made music for three films and received an award for the film score for the film Stories from the Chestnut Woods. Hekla has held many workshops both here in Iceland and abroad and played at festivals around the world, including the Athens Epidaurus Festival, Ctm Festival, X Jazz festival and performed at Queen Elizabeth hall in Southbank Center.
