Visual Arts Day
12:00-17:00
The yearly Visual Art Day or Billedkunstens Dag will take place this year on the 12th of March. The day is meant to place focus on different artforms and create awareness of children´s and young people’s artwork as well as ambitious art teaching happening within various schools and institutions in the Nordics. To celebrate the day the Nordic house becomes a venue for an art installation made by six- and seven-year-old students of Vesturbæjarskóli. They have been learning about the ocean and sea life and in a creative workshop after school in Skýjaborgir they have worked further with the theme under the guidance of artist and art teacher Solveg Pálsdóttir. The material made for this installation is all reused – placing attention to environmentally friendly solution and the fact that craft materials often become waste that ends up in the ocean.
The Nordic House has good access to most of the building’s spaces. There is a wheelchair ramp that leads up to the house and inside the house there is an elevator that goes down to the exhibition space Hvelfing. Unfortunately, there are only stairs down to the children’s library from the library itself, but for wheelchairs it is accessible from Hvelfing. It is our agenda to improve accessibility for all in our nearest future. We warmly welcome all comments and suggestions
