Mörsugur is an opera for voice and audiovisuals created from a poetic tale by Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir. Located in folkloric Icelandic nature, the fragmented storytelling ventures on frequent detours on behalf of mythic-like heroines on which the narrator is built upon. Made in a creative collaboration between Ásbjörg Jónsdóttir, Heiða Árnadóttir and Ragnheiður Erla Björnsdóttir, the piece depicts the nuances of being in between worlds, of light and darkness, and memories and the present. Visuals by Ásdís Birna Gylfadóttir.

The piece premiered at Harpa in 2023 and received two nominations for Gríman, for the music and the singing. Heiða received Gríman as singer of the year. The piece has been recorded and they have also created a book that includes Ragnheiður Erla’s poetic tale (with english translation), its graphic design by Ásbjörg, stills from Ásdís’s video works, drawings by Ragnheiður Erla, and handwritten scores of parts of the piece. Alongside the book, the work will be available for streaming on Bandcamp. Þorgrímur Þorsteinsson recorded, mixed and mastered.
