Wagnerisme i Frankrige

Why were so many French artists attracted to Richard Wagner’s works in the late 19^th century? How did his influence manifest itself in French music and why was this influence so disputed? Some answers will be sought to these and other questions and examples of French Wagnerism considered. After the presentation, one of France’s most Wagnerian operas, Ariane et Barbe-bleu by Paul Dukas, will be screened.
