S\u00e1mi literature, young love in wartime and environmental engagement \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The winners of the 2026 Nordic Council Prizes were announced today. All this year\u2019s prize winners are from Norway.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Literature Prize<\/span><\/b>\u00a0is awarded to the novel\u00a0<\/span>L\u00e1\u014btdievv\u00e1 \/ Planterhaug<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>Sigbj\u00f8rn Sk\u00e5den<\/span><\/b>. For the first time in 35 years, the prize goes to a work written in S\u00e1mi. The book was published simultaneously in S\u00e1mi and Norwegian and was nominated by both the S\u00e1mi and Norwegian juries. The novel follows a police officer from Oslo who travels to the S\u00e1mi village of Planterhaug to investigate a death. In the Norwegian edition, Sk\u00e5den moves between Tornedalen S\u00e1mi, Nynorsk and Bokm\u00e5l. These shifts between languages highlight Norway\u2019s linguistic diversity and make language a central part of the narrative. Sk\u00e5den uses language as a literary tool to explore questions of belonging, identity and power relations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Children and Young People\u2019s Literature Prize<\/span><\/b>\u00a0goes to\u00a0<\/span>Du eneste \u2013 historien om Gunvor Hofmo og Ruth Maier<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>Hilde Hagerup<\/span><\/b>. The novel is inspired by the true story of Gunvor Hofmo and Ruth Maier during the Second World War. It portrays the love between them during a dark period marked by war and the persecution of Jews. At the same time, the novel raises questions about love, identity, xenophobia, and war that remain relevant today.\u00a0The novel resonates with readers of all ages, even though it is written for children and young people. Hagerup has previously written numerous works for children and young people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Environmental Prize<\/span><\/b>\u00a0goes to\u00a0<\/span>Milj\u00f8agentene<\/span><\/b>, an organization that gives children and young people opportunities to engage with environmental issues in their local communities and make their voices heard through political advocacy. By giving children access to democratic channels, the organization enables them to influence decisions and participate in climate and environmental issues. At a time when many young people are anxious about climate and environmental issues, engagement that inspires hope and belief in a better future is important.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Film Prize<\/span><\/b>\u00a0goes to\u00a0<\/span>Sentimental Value (Affeksjonsverdi)<\/i><\/strong>, directed and co-written by\u00a0<\/span>Joachim Trier<\/span><\/b>, co-written by\u00a0<\/span>Eskil Vogt<\/span><\/b>, and produced by\u00a0<\/span>Maria Ekerhovd<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Andrea Berentsen Ottmar<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Music Prize<\/span><\/b>\u00a0goes to\u00a0<\/span>Elja<\/i><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>Kristine Tj\u00f8gersen<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Benedicte Maurseth<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
