Nordic House Book Club<\/b><\/p>\n
Are you curious about Nordic literature but unsure where to start?<\/p>\n
The Nordic House hosts a book club in Reykjav\u00edk\u2019s most beautiful library, where we gather to discuss Nordic literature. The reading group is led by Anne Gamborg Jensen, literature intern.<\/p>\n
In October, we will read S\u00e1mi poetry. We will explore S\u00e5le<\/i>\u00a0(Juolgevuo\u0111\u0111u<\/i>) by Niillas Holmberg, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2020. In addition, we will read excerpts from The Sun, My Father<\/i>\u00a0(Beaivi, \u00e1h\u010d\u00e1\u017ean<\/i>) by Nils-Aslak Valkeap\u00e4\u00e4, which in 1991 became the first \u2013 and so far, only work by a S\u00e1mi author to win the Nordic Council Literature Prize.<\/p>\n
In November, we will read Greenlandic literature: Zombieland<\/i>\u00a0(Zombiet Nunaat<\/i>), a short story collection by S\u00f8rine Steenholdt, which was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2016.<\/p>\n
Meeting times and place:\u00a0Thursday, 9 October and Thursday, 13 November at 15:30.<\/b><\/p>\n
We will read in Scandinavian languages and discuss the literature together in \u201cBlandinavian\u201d (a mixture of the Scandinavian languages). The book club takes place in the library, and the Nordic House provides coffee and tea.<\/p>\n
