Scientific and posthumanist perspectives increasingly describe soil as a self-organising living system: a dynamic, symbiotic process rather than an inert resource. Soil embodies both life-generating growth and the vital cycles of decay and decomposition. Because of its opacity and non-human temporalities, soil invites speculations, myths, and narratives alongside scientific knowledge. Bringing together contemporary artistic practices, Membrane reveals soil as a multispecies archive and living memory, staging renewed earthly relations beyond anthropocentrism.

Curator: Thomas Pausz (FR / IS)

Please note that on Sunday 7th June the curator will have a guided tour through the exhibition at 2 PM, read more about that here. Linda Boļšakova will do a performance after the guided tour at 3 PM, read about the performance here.

This exhibition is part of the Reykjavík Arts Festival programme.

Read more about the accessibility here.

Welcome to the opening of the exhibition MEMBRANE: Myths & Fictions of Soil, Saturday 6th June at 3 PM.
