{"id":64359,"date":"2026-04-10T10:25:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T10:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nordichouse.is\/?post_type=event&#038;p=64359"},"modified":"2026-04-10T10:31:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T10:31:24","slug":"threads-of-connection","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/nordichouse.is\/en\/event\/threads-of-connection\/","title":{"rendered":"Threads of Connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Fashion design takes over the Nordic House during DesignMarch, transforming the venue into a vibrant platform for fashion and conversation.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The theme of DesignMarch festival 2026 is Connections. \u201cHow do we connect through fashion, tradition, rituals and craftsmanship?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Open to all, the Nordic House will host a curated series of showrooms featuring both emerging and established designers, alongside panel talks, presentations, a dance performance, a textile installation, photography exhibition, a revisiting of the Icelandic fashion archive, a pop-up store, workshops, and tea ceremonies, all presented within a calm Nordic setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Threads of Connection,<\/strong> aims to foster meaningful conversations about fashion, culture and community, while enhancing the value of showcased design. The initiative emphasises local talent, education and promotes a global perspective rooted in Icelandic craftsmanship and tradition.<\/p>\n<p>The opening will take place on Friday, May 8, from 17:00\u201320:00.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Featured Designers &amp; Projects:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/alpha-malthing-menningararfur-handverk-og-tiskuheimur-328\"><strong>ALPHA Seminar: Cultural Heritage, Craft and Fashion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with ALPHA, the Nordic House hosts a half\u2011day seminar exploring how emerging designers engage with cultural heritage, and how craft and dress connect past and present. Inspired by the relationship between an Icelandic woman and a U.S. soldier, the garments reflect themes of deconstruction and repair. Military\u2011inspired pieces unravel and are reassembled through delicate knitwear techniques, echoing the emotional process of mending what remains when love becomes a memory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/craft-club-reykjavik-326\"><strong>Craft Club Reykjav\u00edk &#8211; Workshop with Juha Vehmaanper\u00e4<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Knitwear artist Juha Vehmaanper\u00e4 brings Craft Club HEL to the Nordic House for a hands\u2011on workshop exploring wave patterns and tuck\u2011stitch techniques. Their practice centers on slow fashion, queer theory, and meticulous craftsmanship.<br \/>\nInternationally recognized and celebrated with multiple awards, Juha shares their passion for knitting and material experimentation with participants of all skill levels.<\/p>\n<p>Workshop: Saturday 9th of May 11-14<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/samskipti-aferda-320\"><strong>Gu\u00f0j\u00f3n Andri \u00deorvar\u00f0arson &#8211; Structure Interactions<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gu\u00f0j\u00f3n Andri showcases machine\u2011knitted wall hangings that explore the interplay of colour, structure, and material. Using advanced knitting techniques, the works shift in appearance depending on perspective, revealing the depth and complexity of textile construction. His practice bridges traditional craft and cutting\u2011edge 3D knitting technologies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/manstu-eftir-mer-fatahonnunarfelag-islands-366\"><strong>Icelandic Fashion Council<\/strong> <strong>&#8211; <em>Remember Me?<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Icelandic Fashion Council presents <em>Remember Me?<\/em>, an exhibition in the Vault of the Nordic House, featuring photographs, videos, clippings, and garments from 2000\u20132015. The archive\u2011in\u2011progress invites visitors to revisit moments, trends, and memories that shaped Icelandic fashion at the turn of the century, offering a quiet space for reflection on how style, culture, and personal history intertwine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Krist\u00edn Ferrell &#8211; Woven in Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Krist\u00edn Ferrell presents a collection where garment construction and woven textiles develop in tandem. Her work explores how memory becomes embedded in material, resulting in garments where structure and fabric are inseparable. Through weaving and draping, she investigates the intimate dialogue between textile and form.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/vetur-sumar-vor-haust-375\"><strong>MAGNEA &#8211; WINTER\/SUMMER, SPRING\/FALL<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Magnea Einarsd\u00f3ttir introduces her pre\u2011spring 2027 collection, expanding her signature approach to contemporary knitwear. Inspired by the fluidity of Icelandic seasons, the collection blends innovative textiles, unexpected material combinations, and local wool traditions. MAGNEA continues to explore contrast, balance, and the evolving possibilities of knitwear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sigmundur P\u00e1ll Freysteinsson &#8211; Tea ceremony<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Testund will host calming tea ceremonies in Plantan Bistro, where guests can pause and enjoy Japanese teas such as sencha, houjicha, oolong, and matcha. Founded by designer Sigmundur P\u00e1ll Freysteinsson, Testund focuses on quality, origin, and the ritual of tea, drawing inspiration from Sigmundur\u2019s time living and studying in Kyoto. For DesignMarch, he also presents textile works that shape the atmosphere around the tea ceremony, blending craft, contemplation, and material sensitivity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S\u00f3ley J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir &#8211; Daydreaming<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Icelandic designer S\u00f3ley J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir presents <em>Daydreaming<\/em>, a continuation of her acclaimed debut <em>Sleepwalker<\/em>. Known for her dreamlike yet structured visual language, she reveals her new collection alongside an open\u2011studio process and exhibition at the Nordic House. Produced in collaboration with Riccitelli Milano, the work reflects her growing international presence and her commitment to craftsmanship rooted in both Icelandic and global contexts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/suskin-322\"><strong>Suskin &#8211; Fashion Performance<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suskin presents a performance where dance and design meet. Two dancers move through life\u2019s stages with Suskin leather bags as constant companions; objects that gather memories, age with the body, and become extensions of self. The work reflects Suskin\u2019s philosophy of creating timeless pieces that evolve alongside their owners. For Design March, Suskin will have a pop-up store during the Nordic House opening hours.<\/p>\n<p>Fashion Performance: Friday 8th of May 17:20-17:40<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.honnunarmidstod.is\/en\/honnunarmars\/dagskra\/2026\/extinction-event-327\"><strong>Theo Ike &#8211; Extinction Event<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Theo Ike invites visitors on a speculative journey through time, examining humanity\u2019s place in the fossil record and our relationship to the planet\u2019s deep history.
