What roles do craft and dress play in connecting the past and the present?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nordic organisation ALPHA and The Nordic House are organising a half-day seminar that explores cultural heritage across contemporary fashion.\u00a0Through presentations and conversations, the seminar shares new perspectives on the meanings and use of cultural heritage and craft in fashion. The day concludes with an engaging workshop, facilitated by teachers and students from the fashion design department of the Iceland University of the Arts, where everyone can learn how to knit.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the knitting workshop will learn a knitting technique inspired by the Icelandic \u201cr\u00f6ggvafeldur\u201d, a rya weaving technique dating back at least a thousand years. Participants will work creatively with leftover yarn and discarded textiles and leave with a finished accessory item.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will also have the opportunity to get in direct contact with Icelandic wool in its purest form, by knitting directly from raw, unspun wool.<\/p>\n<p>The event is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund through ALPHA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROGRAMME:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>9:30 &#8211; 9:40: Welcome by the Nordic House<br \/>\n9:40 &#8211; 10:00: Introduction to Nordic Fashion Cultures, Ane Lynge-Jorl\u00e9n Director of ALPHA.<br \/>\n10:00 &#8211; 11:00: Cultural Heritage in Nordic Fashion. A conversation with fashion designers \u00c5sa Briet Brattaberg, Maibritt Marjunard\u00f3ttir og Arnar M\u00e1r J\u00f3nsson, moderated by Ane Lynge-Jorl\u00e9n.<br \/>\n11:00 &#8211; 11:30: Coffee break<br \/>\n11:30 &#8211; 13:00: Knitting workshop<\/p>\n<p>This event will take place in English.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nordichouse.is\/en\/opening-hours-and-accessibility\/\"><em>Accessibility to Elissa (auditorium) is good.
