Our Language. Our Land. Our Existence.
\nA Perspective from Kalaallit Nunaat \u2013 Greenland<\/b><\/p>\n

A public talk by Katti Frederiksen<\/b>, linguist, writer, founding director of Iperaq, and recipient of the Vigd\u00eds International Prize<\/p>\n

Speaking from an Inuit perspective, Frederiksen will discuss the relationships among people, the Arctic as a shared space, and the Greenlandic language and culture as foundations of community life and knowledge systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Her talk will provide a historical overview of processes that have affected language and culture in Greenland. Katti will also highlight current developments in literature, education, and cultural production in Greenland, and how they demonstrate creativity and vitality despite the experiences of oppression and colonisation.<\/p>\n

Finally, the talk will address the mounting challenges linked to expanding geopolitical interests and increasing external influence in the Arctic, all of which shape everyday realities and threaten the future existence of Inuit communities\u2019 languages and cultures.<\/p>\n
