On the same occasion, Louise Calais, the Swedish Ambassador to Iceland, will open an exhibition about the Nobel Prize in the lobby of the Nordic House before the symposium begins. The exhibition will run until 23 November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The symposium will feature presentations and discussions about Halld\u00f3r Laxness, his work, his influence as an author, and his message to modern readers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Program of the symposium:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Salka &#8211; Love and death\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The writer Halld\u00f3r Gu\u00f0mundsson discusses with the playwright and actress Unnur \u00d6sp Stef\u00e1nsd\u00f3ttir her new work based on the novel Salka Valka. Unnur will then perform a sample from the work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Excellence from the Outskirts: What a Difference a Nobel Prize Can Make<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mads Rosendahl Thomsen, professor of literature at Aarhus University and expert in the system of world literature.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Glacier is Open: On Young People&#8217;s Reading of Halld\u00f3r Laxness&#8217;s Works in the Light of Christianity Under the Glacier<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anna R\u00f3s \u00c1rnad\u00f3ttir, literary scholar and poet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Presented by Halld\u00f3r Laxness Halld\u00f3rsson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>The entire program will be held in Icelandic, except for Mads Rosendahl Thomsen&#8217;s lecture, which will be in English.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The symposium will be attended by the Embassy of Sweden in Iceland, Glj\u00fafrasteinn, Forlagi\u00f0, Reykjav\u00edk Literary Agency, the Literature- and Art History institution of University of Iceland, and the Nordic House. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Arount the same time, the Nobel Prize itself will be on display at the National Library. The exhibition will run from 27 October to 19 December. The money and the award certificate will be on display, and it will also be possible to see a silver laurel wreath that the Icelandic Labour Union presented to Halld\u00f3r on the occasion of the award.<\/p>\n<p>These events, exhibitions and symposium are part of a series of events about Halld\u00f3r Laxness and the Nobel Prize. Earlier this fall, the Reykjav\u00edk Art Museum hosted a program with artists Ragnar Kjartansson and Joan Jonas about the influence of Halld\u00f3r Laxness on their artistic creation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The day before, Wednesday, November 5, there will be a Quiz game called Barsvar in the St\u00fadentakjallarinn (the student restaurant\/bar) hosted by the Student Bookstore, with the theme of Halld\u00f3r Laxness.
