In celebration of Pippi Longstocking\u2019s 80th anniversary, a new exhibition is opening at the Nordic House children\u2019s library, offering insight into the adventurous world of one of the most beloved characters in children\u2019s literature. Pippi\u2019s appeal is timeless\u2014she remains just as popular with children today as when the first book was published 80 years ago.<\/p>\n

Pippi Longstocking is an iconic figure who challenges norms, questions all authority, and lives life entirely on her own terms. No limits are placed on Pippi. She is independent, lives alone, and is incredibly strong. She cares for her pets by herself and decides what she wants to do each day. Normally, only adults have such freedom, power, and strength. Pippi possesses adult-like autonomy, responsibility, and strength\u2014yet with the humor and playfulness of a child.<\/p>\n

Children long for the freedom they see in Pippi\u2019s lifestyle and admire her independence, even if they know it\u2019s not something they can have. However, children can be guided on an imaginative journey where the feeling of complete freedom prevails\u2014a place where ideas and possibilities are played with, and mental travel takes them beyond the boundaries of modern society.<\/p>\n

Pippi reminds us to hold on to the child within, the playfulness, and the absurd\u2014to turn concepts upside down and have fun, no matter the challenges. The \u201cPippi attitude\u201d has become a term that embodies critical thinking toward accepted norms.<\/p>\n

With this exhibition, we aim to encourage thinking outside the box, the power of empathy, and the importance of friendship.<\/p>\n
