In an increasingly visual world, the ability to interpret and create meaning from images is essential across disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Join us for 4 short presentations that highlight different aspects of visual literacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gitte Wille<\/strong> the director of Nordisk kulturkontakt presents Bokslukaran, a Nordic project to promote reading of children\u2019s literature in all the Nordic countries. &#8211; in English<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingibj\u00f6rg Hannesd\u00f3ttir<\/strong> will present the project SJ\u00d3NARAFL which aims in a purposeful way to connect the teaching of visual literacy and art history with the school system and to increase students\u2019 knowledge of the cultural history and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bergr\u00fan Iris S\u00e6varsd\u00f3ttir\u00a0<\/strong>will share their perspective on how images in storytelling convey deeper meanings, often telling us more than words alone. &#8211; In Icelandic<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jenny Lucander\u00a0<\/strong>in conversation about her work with illustrations. &#8211; In English<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll conclude with a moderated panel discussion focusing on how visual literacy can help us with language and reading. Ingibj\u00f6rg Hannesd\u00f3ttir and Bergr\u00fan Iris S\u00e6varsd\u00f3ttir will be joined by John \u00c5ge Boman Homleid, Norwegian teacher, and Merete Smith-Sivertsen, associate professor at H\u00e1sk\u00f3la \u00cdslands. The conversation will be moderated by Erling Kj\u00e6rbo, head librarian at the Nordic House.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to an engaging symposium with valuable insights and lively dialogue! The presentations are in Icelandic &amp; English, and the conversation and panel discussion will be held in English.<\/p>\n<p><i>Accessibility: Elissa is accessible for wheelchairs but please be aware that there is a small threshold\u00a0into the\u00a0auditorium. Accessible toilets are on the main floor of the building and all toilets are gender neutral.
