It is clear that the carbon footprint of buildings is large and has a worldwide impact; both on nature and societies in the present and future. Current building regulations allow for unsustainable building practices, while also limiting the space for experimentation within the construction sector. The whole world is at stake and we need to radically rethink everything we do. How should we build in the next 100 years?<\/h3>\n

Welcome to the event To build a future, which will be held in connection with the exhibition Wasteland, currently on display in the Nordic House. The event is organized by Nordic Cooperation, The Sustainability Institute at the University of Iceland and Lendager Architects \u2013 on the occasion of the Nordic Council Environment Prize placing an emphasis on sustainable construction in 2024.<\/p>\n

We will hear keynotes by Snorri Sigur\u00f0sson, member of the Nordic Council Environment Prize jury, Arnhildur P\u00e1lmad\u00f3ttir, owner of Lendager Iceland, which is behind the exhibition Wasteland, and Anna Mar\u00eda Bogad\u00f3ttir, who is nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2024 for her book Internment (Jar\u00f0setning). Afterward, the speakers will participate in a panel discussion with \u00de\u00f3ra Margr\u00e9t \u00deorgeirsd\u00f3ttir, project manager of Byggjum gr\u00e6nni framt\u00ed\u00f0. The panel will discuss the future of the construction industry in Iceland and the opportunities that lie in increased circularity and sustainability in light of the ongoing review of the construction regulations. The moderator is Andri Sn\u00e6r Magnason.<\/p>\n

The event will end with a guided tour of the Wasteland exhibition and light refreshments. The event will take place in Icelandic.<\/p>\n
