An introduction to Ukrainian cinema through the cartoon \u201cOnce upon a time there was a dog\u2026\u201d. Guests get the chance to see the film which will be showing during the workshop and hear the music. Inspired by the cartoon figures guests can draw and\/or cut out silhouettes from the character of the animation and create their own story and add their own figures.<\/p>\n
The workshop takes place in Swedish, Icelandic, Ukrainian and English.<\/p>\n
“Once upon a time there was a dog” is a 1983 animated film directed by Eduard Nazarov, based on the Ukrainian folk tale “Sirko”.<\/p>\n
In the early 1980s, the director of “Soyuzmultfilm” several times visited his friends in Oleshky (Kherson region) for a summer vacation, and it was in this beautiful city that he was inspired by beautiful white houses, night festivities, songs and feasts. Even as a child, Eduard Nazarov loved the Ukrainian fairy tale about the dog Sirko, which also played a significant role in the creation of the cartoon.<\/p>\n
The director worked on the script for about a year – he collected materials in museums in Kyiv and Lviv, researched the life and interior in the village of Pyrohiv, recorded songs in Poltava region. Folk songs sound in the cartoon: “My father was mowing, I was mowing”, “Oh there on the mountain”, “Oh to the forest path” and “Oh the hoop burst”.<\/p>\n
“Once upon a time there was a dog” won the first prize at the V International Fairy Tale Film Festival, Odense, Denmark, 1983 and the special jury prize of Annecy, France, 1983.<\/p>\n
