Situated in different countries on different continents, Kettly No\u00ebl in Bamako, Mali, and Charmene Pang in Reykjav\u00edk, Iceland, the artists engage with the soils and climates of the two countries, which could hardly be more different. One land is expanding, another shrinking \u2013 drifting apart earth plates and the displacing desert.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Encompassing different aspects of their country, the unifying themes of the two artists include: Layers of earth, layers of ice, climatic conditions, movement, relocation and isolation. Both moved years ago to the respective countries they live in &#8211; what does this mean for them and their relation to the soil they move on? What for their work as artists? What does it tell about the land and what does it say about its culture?
