Welcome to DesignMarch at the Nordic House!<\/p>\n
In collaboration with the Icelandic architecture association Arkitektaf\u00e9lag \u00cdslands, we are this year hosting a seminar in two parts titled Female Pioneers & Historic Buildings.<\/em><\/p>\n A panel of inspiring experts will guide us through the stories of important women on the frontiers of Nordic architecture as well as a look into renovation of historic buildings.<\/em><\/p>\n The moderator is Hildigunnur Sverrisd\u00f3ttir, architect and Dean in the department of Design and Architecture, Iceland Shool of Visual Arts.<\/p>\n The first part of the seminar, Female Pioneers <\/strong>is dedicated to some of the remarkable women who have made a powerful imprint in the architectural history.<\/p>\n Architect Sirkkaliisa Jetsonen reviews the history of Finnish female architects focusing on the, sometimes overlooked, women who designed and oversaw the construction of the Nordic House in Reykjavik \u2013 Elissa Aalto, Ilona Lehtinen and Pirkko S\u00f6derman.<\/p>\n Architect Guja D\u00f6gg Hauksd\u00f3ttir will talk about Icelandic architect H\u00f6gna Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir and her renowned work.<\/p>\n Rounding up this first part of the seminar, Sirkkaliisa, Guja D\u00f6gg, art historian \u00c1sd\u00eds \u00d3lafsd\u00f3ttir and architect\/PHD candidate \u00d3skar Arn\u00f3rsson take part of a panel discussion followed by a lunch break. Lunch will be provided by S\u00f3n\u00f3 Matseljur.<\/p>\n In the second part, Historic Buildings<\/strong> we will hear from the architekt duo Kurt og P\u00ed (\u00c1smundur Hrafn Sturluson og Stein\u00fe\u00f3r K\u00e1ri K\u00e1rason) and their renovation projects in Iceland such as The Marshall House, Akureyri Art Museum and \u00c1smundasalur as well as their input to the renovation of the Nordic House in Reykjav\u00edk.<\/p>\n Finally we welcome Mikko Laaksonen, author of Architect Erik Bryggman: Works. Mikko talks about the Finnish architect Erik Bryggman and the Nordic co-operation of architects in relation to the exhibition on Bryggman\u2018s work, which is exhibited in the halls of the Nordic House during DesignMarch.<\/p>\n
