Facebook demands that\u00a0its citizens are open and\u00a0connected, \u00a0yet Facebook as a company is\u00a0far from open and transparent.<\/p>\n
With 1.4 billion users, Facebook is the world\u2019s largest social media space and the\u00a0company stores personal data on an unprecedented scale. \u00a0Facebook is perhaps the most visible symptom of an increasingly closed and centralised internet, but is also a social revolution with great democratic potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cFacebookistan\u201d takes a close look at Facebook, exploring how several\u00a0individuals and organisations are hit hard by Facebook\u2019s policies and by their working\u00a0conditions.\u00a0The film examines through case examples, how Facebook as a business challenges two of democracy\u2019s basic principles: the right to free speech and the right to privacy.<\/p>\n
