Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir explores gender, boundaries and identity in her strong and vulnerable poems, novels, short stories and plays. This author night will revolve around Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir&#8217;s authorship as the award-winning translator John Swedenmark, who translated \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttirs books, will lead us through.<\/p>\n<p>The Livestream begins at 7.30 pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong> (1962) has received numerous awards for her works. The novel <i>Elskan m\u00edn \u00e9g dey\u00a0<\/i>(&#8220;Now I Die, honey&#8221;) was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 1999 and her play <i>\u00c1starsaga 3<\/i> (&#8220;Love story 3&#8221;) was nominated for the Nordic Dramatic Prize in 1998.<br \/>\nIn 2005 she received the Icelandic award Gr\u00edmuver\u00f0launin as Playwright of the Year for the Play <i>Seg\u00f0u m\u00e9r allt\u00a0<\/i>(&#8220;Tell Me Everything&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>For the poetry collection <i>Sj\u00e1\u00f0u fegur\u00f0 \u00fe\u00edna\u00a0<\/i>(&#8220;See your beauty&#8221;), she received the Icelandic award Fjoraver\u00f0launin in 2008. Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir has also worked with visual art, exhibited drawings, and participated in exhibitions where she has worked with various art forms such as videos and sculptures. Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir&#8217;s books have been translated into Danish, Swedish, Finnish and French, and her poems have been published in foreign anthologies<\/p>\n<p>When the book <i>K\u00f3ngul\u00e6r \u00ed s\u00fdningargluggum<\/i>\u00a0 &#8220;Spiders in exhibition windows&#8221; (nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019) was published, an Icelandic critic wrote: &#8220;Krist\u00edn succeed with both fascinating and scaring, make one cry and happy, all at once.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>John Swedenmark <\/b>(1960) is a translator, linguist and editor living in Stockholm. He translates Icelandic fiction, as well as French and English literature and poetry from several other languages. In addition, he is an essayist himself.<\/p>\n<p>Among the authors Swedenmark has translated are; Gyr\u00f0ir El\u00edasson, Steinunn Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir, \u00c9mile Benveniste, Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir, Sj\u00f3n, J\u00f3n Kalman St\u00e9fansson, Eir\u00edkur \u00d6rn Nor\u00f0dahl and Alda Merini.<\/p>\n<p>Swedenmark won Or\u00f0st\u00edr Award 2019<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8211; &#8216;the honorary award for translators of Icelandic literature into a foreign language&#8217; and the Swedish Academy&#8217;s translator award in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now I die, honey &#8211; Livestream Krist\u00edn \u00d3marsdott\u00edr is a peculiar voice in Icelandic literature.
